The territory of the Federation of Lotbinière-Mégantic is almost entirely rural. It has 1,820 farms and just over 2,600 agricultural producers. Therefore, agriculture contributes greatly to the dynamism of the regional economy. The majority of agricultural income comes from swine production, dairy, beef, poultry and maple syrup. An increasing number of farms occupying new niches hold a place more and more significant in the food sector in the region. Moreover there is a close collaboration between the actors of the economic environment and those of the agricultural and food industries. The Lotbinière-Mégantic Federation has nine base unions representing all agricultural producers in the region.
